So, You Think That We Have Nothing To Do In Winter?
Have we got news for you! In the days and weeks following the busy Holiday Season, there are no big vacations to exotic places planned– we’re too busy getting ready for OUR planting season! After all, someone has got to plant the wonderful flowers and vegetables that will be in your gardens this year. Believe it or not, this actually is one of our busiest times of the year. We're getting our greenhouses set-up and ready for our new plants, checking our furnaces in advance of our early plantings (we’ve got to keep our little green friends “comfortable”), filling pots with soil for upcoming plantings, checking in and arranging new merchandise in the garden shop (which we have already been doing at a feverish pace) and generally cleaning up our entire facility.

Very soon, pansies and violas will be planted and begin growing, as well as princess lilies and many of our big specialty hanging baskets that will grace your porches and patios very soon. In mid-February, more than 3,000 perennial starts will be arriving, ready to plant. By the first of March, our Proven Winners® perennials, Simply Beautiful® annuals and geranium plugs will have arrived and be READY TO GROW– but, they need to be planted, too. Thereafter, we'll be receiving shipments of literally thousands of plugs on a weekly basis, until the middle of April. So, during the remaining winter months, we’ll be getting our hands dirty, putting in long hours of planting, fertilizing, watering and nurturing. In short, we’ll be getting your “future gardens” ready for you to plant in the coming season. So, are we relaxing in the sun on some warm beach? Hardly… Instead of white sand and warm ocean breezes, it’s more like potting soil, fertilizer and peat moss in a cold greenhouse for us. But, we wouldn’t trade this time of year for anything– it’s a LABOR OF LOVE!
