May we suggest a couple of new things to get excited about, as we prepare for the new growing season?

Of course at this early juncture, not a single seed or plant plug has been stuck into any of the thousands of potting mix-filled flats and pots that we have in our many greenhouses. But we are more than ready to sow some early seeds of creativity in advance of the new growing season. Here are a couple of inspiring ideas to get you, our customers, primed for the green days ahead in 2012! Read More>>

As we enter January of a New Year, I am sure that we can expect a big turn towards colder weather very soon. But, how lucky we have been in this early winter with the unseasonably warm days so far! In view of that, I was also thinking recently how much progress we have made in a relatively short period of time in improving the way that we heat our homes and businesses. A Friendly Reminder

During the early months of winter (primarily January & February), we often keep somewhat irregular business hours at our store. So, if you are thinking about stopping by to shop at our Garden Center later in the day, it might be a good idea to call ahead first, just to make sure that we will be open. We usually are around for the lion’s share of most days, but we sometimes close earlier than normal on slow winter days.

Seasonal tips

Have plenty of food stockpiled for our fine-feathered friends… With the likelihood of another long, harsh winter arriving soon, birds wintering in the area will need a food source, when other natural food sources are no longer available. So, put up a bird feeder and fill it with the right kind of seed for your neighborhood bird population, before the snow and ice hit! Don’t neglect the woodpeckers and nuthatches, either… by setting out suet feeders for large seed and nut-eating birds. Over-wintering birds truly appreciate the extra food. Plus, they are very entertaining, as they congregate at feeders during the winter months! Consider Niepagens as your birders supply resource throughout the winter…
